Hi brilliant friend,
Greetings and salutations from Austin, Texas. Here is your weekly dose of Arman’s Antics, a few things that I would like to transfer from my mind to yours. Welcome to the nine new subscribers receiving this for the first time (81 total). My goal was to hit 100 by the end of the year. It’s coming down to the wire but you can make a difference by forwarding this to one brilliant friend.
Article I wrote last week
Become Known Well was my attempt to make a case for why fame is the absolute worst thing to strive for even though society has done its best to brainwash you into thinking otherwise. Become known well not well known. What side are you on?
Article you need to check out
My friend Chris wrote a fantastic piece on Tim Ferriss’s most neglected (but powerful) advice. As many of you know, Tim has been one of my spirit animals for the past five years. I’ve read two of his books and listened to 100+ of his podcasts.
Any time I face a challenge I think, WWTD? “What would Tim do?”
Chris does a great job of distilling one of the best things you can do as this year closes. I would highly advise checking it out.
What I’m reading
I managed to find another book that was worth reading from start to finish. The Pathless Path by Paul Millerd. He worked in management consulting for 10+ years earning $200,000 a year and decided to quit with no backup plan.
Since then he has been exploring the invisible scripts that constrain our work and personal lives. This is a must read for anyone who has ever felt like the default path just isn’t cutting it anymore.
My favorite question I walked away with: Is what I think I want what I really want, or has society persuaded me to adopt that want?
My weekly reminder to live with purpose
I bought this Life Calendar created by the man behind one of my favorite blogs Wait But Why, Tim Urban.
It is a visual reminder to make the most of my life. If I live to be 4,680 weeks old (ninety years) then I’m already 1/3 of the way there. I mark a new X every Sunday evening and purposely put it right behind my desk so I come face to face with it daily. My fiancé thinks it’s morbid but I consider it my most prized piece of artwork.
Sporting event I’m thrilled about
My Georgia Bulldogs are SEC champions and the #1 seed in the College Football Playoffs. They are undefeated this season and have dominated every opponent so far. Next on the list is Ohio State.
I shed several tears (of joy) just from watching highlights from last year’s national championship victory. Back to back championships will cause me to lose it. Go dawgs!
(the disrespect in this photo from Saturday’s game brings me immense joy)
Random thought
Why do we insist on naming babies before they are even born? Let’s get to know them a bit first. Or better yet, why don’t we let them name themselves?
That’s all I’ve got for you today. How was it first timers? You gonna buy a Life Calendar to hang on your wall? You may want to add that to your Christmas gift list. Let me know by replying to this email.
I read and reply to every response since there’s only one or two each week 😂. I’m on Twitter where I share my semi-controversial thoughts.
Have a Terrific Tuesday, brilliant friend!
Cheers,
Arman
Thanks for the shout-out, Arman! Also, I'm going to have to check out that Paul Millerd book.
New subscriber here, and I love your writing style. Also, love the life calendar. I have one as well. And yes, children should be able to name themselves (Big Daddy, anyone?) I'm a die-hard University of Michigan fan, so I'm torn on your Bulldogs. I would love another shot at them after last year, but I would also love to see the Wolverines kick the shit out of the Buckeyes again. That said, if I were forced to put money on it, it would be tough to go against Georgia.
