Hi my fellow new year resolutionary,
Coming to you live from Austin, Texas. Here is your weekly dose of Arman’s Antics. A few things I’ve stumbled upon that could be useful to you. Please feel free to forward this along to friends (limit two per reader).
Welcome to the fourteen new subscribers receiving this for the first time (171 total). I don’t take your attention lightly.
New Year’s Resolutions
I’ve agreed to venmo my fiancé $5 every Sunday if I miss any of the following for the previous week:
Exercise for 1 hour, 5 times per week
Write for 1 hour per day
Read for 1 hour per day
How’d my first check-in go? Please see the image below. How are your resolutions going so far?
Essay I wrote last week
Childish Curiosity. This one was for the people out there who didn’t win the genetic lottery of either book smarts or street smarts, like me. All we can fall back on is our natural curiosity. It’s all we’ve got.
The day we lose our childish curiosity is the moment we die. Don’t take my word for it. Socrates was probably misquoted because I believe he actually said, “The uncurious life is not worth living.” I received some of the best comments yet on this one.
YouTube channel I’m binging
Coffeezilla. From the about page: “I uncover scams, fraudsters and fake gurus that are preying on desperate people with deceptive advertising. If you have to ask... it’s probably too good to be true.”
How had I never heard of this guy before? He has 2.5 million subscribers and now he has another one. He is the self-proclaimed internet detective who hunts down, calls out, exposes, and even interviews fake gurus and scammers. Ever heard of Tai Lopez? Dan Lok? None of them are safe.
His channel has become well-respected enough that the FBI has reached out to him to get more intel on these evil-doers. This video describes his experience of joining Andrew Tate’s cult called Hustler’s University (so cringe).
Book I finished reading
The Art of Possibility. From the description: “The authors' harmoniously interwoven perspectives provide a deep sense of the powerful role that the notion of possibility can play in every aspect of life.” This came highly recommended from Seth Godin who I deeply respect.
My biggest takeaway was that it’s all invented. Each of us create our own stories to explain the world. If our stories suck, then guess what? We can change them and, like magic, develop a totally new outlook on our situation.
Random thought
The simplest and most effective money rule of all time? Don’t run out.
That’s all my antics for this week. You can compliment this edition with last week’s antics that shared some of my favorite tidbits from 2022.
Will you consider sharing this if you found it useful?
Have a Terrific Tuesday, new year resolutionary!
Cheers,
Arman
