Hello friend,
Coming to you live from Austin, Texas.
Here’s your weekly dose of Arman’s Antics — five things I’ve been pondering or exploring that will send you into the weekend with a think, chuckle, weep (or a nasty combination of the three).
Let’s give a warm welcome to the 14 new subscribers receiving this for the first time (472 total). I don’t take your attention lightly.
Hopefully nobody reads this, but if you do, please keep it to yourself.
Essay I wrote about a strange lesson I learned the hard way
Distinguishing who you are on the internet versus real life is a modern struggle. It’s easy to confuse the two.
But it’s vitally important to remember:
Classic personal finance book I finished rereading so you don’t have to
The richest man in Babylon by George S. Clason.
I’ve always been a personal finance nerd.
Although that might not be obvious if you saw my bank account. But hey, we’re making progress baby.
So I picked up this 1926 classic which is a compilation of short tales to see if the 100 year old principles still had any relevance today.
It did not disappoint.
I’ve read dozens of personal finance books over the years and there’s a lot of junk out there, but this oldie is still a goodie.
Is personal finance not your cup of tea? I’ve got you.
Rule #1: spend less than you earn.
Rule #2: see rule #1.
That’s it. I just saved you from financial ruin. You’re welcome.
Youtube interview you’ve never seen
I love finding obscure videos that contain so many gems of wisdom.
This one only has 20k views while the Super Bowl just had over 100m views.
I feel like a spy getting to peak under the hood of a true power couple who spent 50+ years distilling the entire known history of human civilization.
You can expect to learn about their fascinating adventures, their deep love for each other, their quest to make history accessible to the masses, and the most vital lessons they learned about human nature from half a century of research.
All in less time than it takes to watch the latest episode of The Bachelor.
The bachelor/bachelorette trip test
Speaking of the bachelor…
Want a simple way to find out who a person is?
Observe the people invited to their bachelor/bachelorette trip.
If we become who we surround ourselves with, then the people who earn an invite on this trip will tell you all you need to know about the soon-to-be newly wed.
Random thought
There are two types of people in the world: those who are fools and those who know they are fools.
That’s it for the 73rd edition of Arman’s Antics.
I hope you didn’t make it this far, but if you did, please resist the urge to spread the word.
Now back to your regularly scheduled nonstop scrolling!
Remember — always try to be a little more curious than you normally are.
Cheers,
Arman
Great round-up as usual, Arman. What would you say your favourite personal finance book is?
