Hola partner,
I don’t know why you’ve come. But I’m glad you’re here.
Coming to you live from Austin, Texas.
Here’s your weekly dose of Arman’s Antics — five things I’ve been exploring or pondering that will give you a good think, laugh, cry (or a nasty combination of the three).
Give it up for the thirty-three new subscribers receiving this for the first time (731 total). I don’t take your attention lightly.
I hope nobody reads this, but if you do, please keep it to yourself.
Essay I wrote this week
Comedians are philosophers.
They uncover deep truths and present them in a memorable way (by making us laugh).
So whenever Jerry Seinfeld shares his secret to life, it’s like getting to listen to Aristotle (but funnier).
Have you ever purposely gone:
In search of wasted time
The secret to life is wasting time in ways that you like. That idea was unpalatable to me the first time I heard it. Which, of course, made me curious to explore it further.
Book I’m rereading
The Practice: Shipping Creative Work by Seth Godin.
Just because our outcomes aren’t guaranteed doesn’t mean our processes aren’t worth doing.
Here’s the description:
Creative work doesn't come with a guarantee. But there is a pattern to who succeeds and who doesn't. And engaging in the consistent practice of its pursuit is the best way forward. You'll learn to dance with your fear. To take the risks worth taking. And to embrace the empathy required to make work that contributes with authenticity and joy.
This book deserves a spot on every creative’s bookshelf.
Old school song I can’t get enough of
Recently I’ve shared some rap freestyles I’ve been jamming to.
So you might think I’m a one trick pony.
Ah, ah, ah.
I still know how to appreciate a 1970’s pop hit when I hear one.
Enjoy.
May habit tracker
For those who have been following along with me since January, you may have noticed my habits list growing longer and longer.
No more.
I’ve narrowed it down to the handful I hate not doing.
Meditation: 30/31 (goal is 20 minutes a day).
Writing session: 29/31 (goal is 60 minutes a day).
Reading session: 28/31 (goal is 30 minutes a day).
Workout: 10/14 (goal is every Mon/Wed/Fri).
Hoop dreams: 13/4 (goal is once a week).
What habits do you hate not doing? Do you track them?
Random thought
Everyone’s worried about saving endangered species, but what about endangered ideas?
That’s it for the 89th edition of Arman’s Antics.
Most people aren’t curious enough to make it this far. You’re not most people.
Now back to your regularly scheduled nonstop scrolling.
Cheers,
Arman
I'm reading Seth Godins other book Tribes, enjoying it too, it's a good quick and easy read
