Hi friends!
Welcome to Arman’s Antics: This is another experiment. I am going to share what I’ve been exploring and pondering during the past week. It will contain ideas and insights that are (hopefully) timeless.
What I’m listening to
Earl Nightingale’s The Strangest Secret. This is a recording from the 1950’s but it still rings just as true today as it did back then. He was the father of the American personal development movement. His voice booms with authority and integrity in a way that forces you to pay attention. I find myself listening to this piece every couple of months because it’s that good. The major point he delivers is:
We become what we think about. Change your thoughts to change your life. Always stand guard at the gate of your mind. I wrote about this in more detail. You can find it here.
What I’m reading
How To Live by Derek Sivers. He was introduced to me by Tim Ferriss many years ago. You will start to notice a trend that many of my now favorite people were first brought onto my radar by Mr. Ferriss. Thank you kind sir. I am forever grateful.
But back to our regularly scheduled programming: Derek Sivers is that rare breed of entrepreneur turned philosopher that has discovered a way to live his most meaningful life by being a complete contrarian. He has managed to avoid the societal brainwashing that most people don’t even realize they’ve been bathing in. This book is Mr. Sivers beautiful attempt at providing 27 conflicting answers to the question so many of us ponder: “How should I live?”
A couple of my favorite answers are:
Be independent
Value only what has indured
Reinvent yourself regularly.
I wrote a tweet storm about this in more detail last week. You can find it here.
Music I’m enjoying
Florence + The Machine. My fiancé and I had the pleasure of attending her concert last week. Hearing her voice immediately transported me back to college. Driving to class in my Acura while jamming out. I have been a fan for over 10 years and it was so cool to get to see her live for the first time. She put on a fantastic performance in front of 10,000+. You could feel the emotions pouring out of her as she sang. This is my favorite song (114M views).
Random thought
The simplest way to solve our poor health epidemic: Make unhealthy food and ingredients EXPENSIVE. Make healthy food and ingredients CHEAP.
That’s all I’ve got for you this go around. Please give me feedback on Twitter (that’s become my social media of choice). Which section above was your favorite? Which was your least favorite? Other suggestions? Please let me know. Just send a tweet to @ArmanKhodadoost so I can find it. I’ve got dozens of followers so it may take me a bit to get back to you.
Have a terrific Tuesday friends.
With love,
Arman
