Essay I wrote last week
We live in a dangerous world. Filled with destructive weapons that could alter civilization as we know it.
But the weapons I’m most worried about aren’t stored away in an arsenal. They are amongst us. And we willingly welcome them into our minds.
What I finished rereading
Anything You Want: 40 lessons for a new kind of entrepreneur. By Derek Sivers. This is the first of four books he’s released and it’s his 2nd best (in my humble opinion).
Derek tells the beautiful story of starting a multi-million dollar music business on accident. And then lost it all. Well, not really. But he did donate the money to charity.
He demystifies the intimidating world of entrepreneurship. And makes it seem accessible to the masses.
My favorite paragraph: “When you make a business, you’re making a little world where you control the laws. It doesn’t matter how things are done everywhere else. In your little world, you can make it like it should be.” Lovely, isn’t it?
How I’m purposely feeling nostalgic
Flooding. I got this idea from Shaan Puri who got it from Tony Robbins.
It goes like this. Look at old photos and videos that you used to love. These could be selfies with long lost friends. Or youtube videos that used to crack you up, like “Charlie bit my finger”. Ahhhhh, simpler times on the interweb.
Then sit back and enjoy the rush of all those feel-good chemicals flowing through you. I don’t know the science behind this, but it just works.
In a past life, I was a broke 20 something who somehow managed to travel to 30+ countries. Scrolling through those photos transported me like a time machine. I could remember exactly how I felt and what I smelled and the sights I saw and the people I was with in those moments. From a simple photo. Amazing. Try it.
New family member I’m enjoying
I resisted getting a dog for years. My fiancè was adamant that we did. It became a contentious subject for quite some time. Guess who won?
Random thought
The typical American household has 300,000 items!!! And not a single one has the power to make them happy.
That’s it for the 26th edition of Arman’s Antics. A sincere thank you for dedicating some of your day to reading this. I don’t take that lightly. Our time together has come to a close. But it’s not goodbye. I’ll see you again on Thursday with a new essay.
A terrific Tuesday to you and yours!
Cheers,
Arman

that’s a cute dog :)
I love Anything You Want! Awesome book, but I went through the same contentious process re becoming a dog owner, and lost that battle too. We need a manual by Derek titled, Anything You Don't Want.
