“Our obsession with being endlessly entertained by our information diet may be our ultimate demise.”
That’s a good reminder of how we have the power to choose where to place our attention - something that mindfulness and similar practices offer: a space away from endless entertainment
Amusing Ourselves to Death is one of my favorite books ever. Prophetic indeed. Your closing photo, however, is probably the most eyebrow raising thing in this issue. I thought maybe you had included it as one of those "caption this photo" contests. In which case my caption would have been, "Dog corners and holds burglar hostage at beach resort until police arrive." (Maybe I'm just amusing myself to death.)
Similar topic. It's also prescient - written in 1962, it basically defined the term 'celebrity' - a person known for being known. It's a quick read and it changed my view on political events (such as press conferences and releases) and news - basically, news is manufactured since in reality there is very little newsworthy things to report on.

Agreed. The problem is, I don't know how to turn off my entertainment seeking mind even after I meditate.

Glad to see Postman’s great classic. Read it many years ago. Still going strong I gather. One of those to re-read regularly.
His point about us becoming a TV obsessed society translates perfectly to our internet world.
Fast Car is such a 90s kid classic. That and LEN’s Steal My Sunshine
I havent thought of or heard steal my sunshine in years but just reading those words has it singing in my head now!
Amusing ourselves to death is a great book! Another really interesting read is the Image by Boorstin.
Ah, I haven't heard of that one. Is it similar?
