Essay I wrote last week
You know those people who say they always give 110% effort? That’s stupid. Plus, where’d they find that extra 10% anyways?
I’d rather relax for the same result. Wouldn’t you?
Instead of burning the candle at both ends, let’s just:
Book I’m reading
Have you ever read a story so beautifully written that it feels like you’re experiencing it yourself?
That’s how it feels when I plop down and peel open Travels with Charley in Search of America.
You’ve probably heard of his more popular books “Of mice and men” or “The grapes of wrath”. But this one is a hidden gem.
It’s the true story of John and Charley (his poodle) road-tripping across America in the hopes of better understanding who lives here and where they’re headed (circa 1960).
Even though our trips were separated by roughly 60 years, he and I shared similar experiences on our road trips across America. Although he was more optimistic than me.
It’s funny how much stays the same even while everything’s changing.
Savor friendships
My bachelor trip was last weekend in Chicago with my brother and three best friends. We had a blast frollicking around Lollapalooza and taking over Wrigley field to cheer on our Braves.
But something unexpected struck me as I headed to the airport Sunday morning.
There’s a chance that could be the last time the five of us ever spend that much time together alone.
We live in three different states scattered across America, so it’s challenging to get together these days.
I entered the plane with a tinge of sadness but also a hint of gratitude. Is there a word for this?
Random thought
What if the next time you were with your best friend group was the last time you’d ever all be together at once?
Eventually that will be true. Savor accordingly.
That’s it for the 46th edition of Arman’s Antics. Thank you for stopping by while sipping that piping hot beverage. Now back to your regularly scheduled nonstop scrolling.
Have a terrific Tuesday!
Cheers,
Arman
Would highly recommend Steinbeck's Log from the Sea of Cortez next.
Bro, you’re getting married?
