Great advice, Arman. I'm releasing a novel very soon and have very tempered enthusiasm for it. Why? I've been burned before on not getting the third-party validation I seek. So yeah: do it because you love it.

Thank you Bradley Im glad it resonated. Thats so exciting, congratulations to you!

They say the key to happiness is low expecations. But also as long as it turns out to be something you enjoy, thats all that matters in the end.

Agreed Tyler. And when we not only can fail freely but still have fun during the process of "failing".

So good, very cool perspective! I’ve been layed off three times in the last 5 years and this resonates deeply. But unfortunately from the I was failing at something I didn’t want to be doing but kept forcing myself back in. Now I will go try something new and scary but at least it’s what I want.

Thank you Andres. Im sorry youve been laid off so much but i hope each time is just more feedback you can take in as you continue to get one step closer to what feels right to you.

Great idea, great writing. Useful Not True is such a great way of thinking about beliefs. Derek Sivers has a book coming out on it this year. Thanks for writing and sharing, Arman.

Great point! It reminds me of the central thesis of This Life by Martin Hagglund - a quote from an interview: "And when you're devoted to something like that, you both grasp, you believe that it's important in itself. It's an end in itself. But you also grasp in practice that it's fragile. It will fall apart if you don't sustain it"

Thank you! I have never heard of him but thats a great line. writing is the one thing ive found that i enjoy simply for the act itself so i hope to continue doing it as long as i live. what about you?

Highly recommend his book. Yes - and this approach is also helpful towards 'mundane' tasks. Some things only get done because of you as an individual. In the book he mentions how our actions free up time for others which is also a value creating act.

Thank you I will have to add it to my ever growing list of "books I want to read".

Fail as many times as you want. Beneath failure there is more progress than success.

Yes Edwin. In the long run nearly every "failure" can lead to an unexpected success if we stick with it.

I love “comedians in cars getting coffee” because that’s another example of him just doing what he wants. You can tell right away when he isn’t impressed by the comedian. Eg. Aziz Ansari episode is straight up awkward because he doesn’t understand Aziz’s millennial giggling 🤭 Jerry can’t fake it which is actually refreshing.

we just became friends. ive been rewatching lately for the third time through. its so freaking good but my wife cant stand it.

so funny you mention the aziz episode. i just watched that one the other day and thought the same thing. he just doesnt vibe with certain guests and you can tell it by his expressions so easily.

This might just be me, but I don’t have this issue. I am pretty comfortable with “failure” or “negative” experiences. It are those deemed positive that I don’t know how to deal with. Actually something good happening can be quite overwhelming.

That's totally fine. None of us have the same relationship to failure or negativity. There's always a different way to look at those moments and see the good in them!

Oh I know that it is fine. I suppose it is all predicated on ones relationship with experiences, or the familiarity or lack thereof.
