I weirdly find meaning in a 1,000 day cycle. A year is too small, and a decade is too big. 1,000 days is 2.74 years. Looking back, there seemed to be significant changes at that interval, and so I make big decisions at that cadence moving forward. Wrote about this when I was around my 12,000 day mark: https://www.michaeldean.site/p/the-1000-day-molt

I like that. Its like a goldilocks timespan - not too short, not too long.

My brain leans too heavily towards the short term, but this makes me want to reflect back on my life in 1000 day chunks.

Thank you for sharing Michael!

My life doesn’t change rapidly enough for my-years to match with time-years. I do think of my life in chapters though, “this chapter contained these years” - works better for me. Love your sentiment though and celebrating personal things is definitely important.

That's a good point. Often one chapter can last several years. So maybe its better to reflect back on the chapters of our lives rather than the years.

Good to hear from you my friend!

I'm with you, Arman. I wonder how much of this is societal conditioning (and Big Holiday marketing). Sadly, people like being told not only how to think, but how to regulate their calendars. So yes: Boo to the Times Square ball drop.

Not only do they want to be told how to think, but how to live, which is even scarier.

We should lean in to our personal markers of time instead of society's.

Appreciate your note Bradley!

Agreed. Now we're stuck with gender-reveal parties.
