I think it's wise to not comment on posts if you aren't willing to do it face-to-face. Also, I agree to not consume information from just one source. I'd like to add moderation is really important. We need to remember there's a real world out there, too.
Thank you Daniel. These are all meant as reminders to myself because I've broken them all. Moderation is mandatory. There's hundreds more that I missed. Good call.
way too relatable! I wonder what the internet landscape would be if #2 was followed- would things be more friendly?
Imagine if we hadn't progressed beyond the days of dial-up internet connection - maybe this list would hold less merit because time spent online might be more valued 🤔
Haha that's a good point Steve. One of the downsides of lightening fast internet connection. Maybe I should downgrade my connection speed a few notches?
This is a wonderful , clear, accessible list -- and such an interesting discussion starter. If I had the power, I'd like to see high school teachers and parents bring it up with their tweens and teens. What do they think? What would they add? What examples would they give for why these commandments are needed or perhaps why they think some of them may go too far. Yep, the internet 101.
Thank you Martha. I agree. I think the younger folks who have only known an internet existence could have some great ones to add. Anything come to mind?
Thank you Taylor. You are so right. Can't believe I missed that golden opportunity to include that one... I've actually done this some Sundays but not often enough. Have you?
Not often enough, too! I gotta use my kitchen safe (the one from Shark Tank lol) to lock up my phone for a few hours to get focused work done. Ive also debated getting a dumb phone, and only being online from my computer at home. But I like your idea of unplugging every Sunday or having a more concrete plan in place..
I should probably get one of those safes too because I still get too tempted having my phone in sight.
Also a great little travel hack I use when out of the country is never buying a data plan. I can only use my phone if I have wifi. Helps me be so much more present when wandering around.
I'd add one more commandment: Thou shalt not doomscroll before bed. Your sleep (and sanity) will thank you! 😂
Amen. Enough said.
Great list Arman!

...going contrarian here...one shall spend as little time on it as actively humanly possible...
I'm right there with you but I don't think its realistic. But im all for a regular internet sabbath :)
This.

#5 is so true. I know so many influencers who are struggling in real life
The whole influencer world kinda creeps me out. I applaud the few who willingly admit that they're flawed humans too.
100%

Remember to disconnect regularly. The internet is not the totality of connection. In fact it is but a mere fragment of the experience of truly living.
Definitely. I missed a lay up for an "internet sabbath".
#8 should be #1, SO important.
You may be right. Especially with an upcoming election...
It’s just as if god had written it himself.
We’re in need of an online etiquette. This is a good start.
Haha I'm sure god could think of plenty more I missed. Anything come to mind?
Great mini list
Thanks! Anything you'd add?
👍
Yes, yes!!
Anything you'd add?
haha this is gold! I especially liked #5 thou shalt not covet an influencer's life.
Maybe there could be a commandment for one day a week to disconnect/unplug from the internet.
Like taking a 'Sabbath' from being on the internet, I mean even God needed a day for himself, right?

Yeah that’s smart, we need to put our phone on vacation mode to fully enjoy the country.
vacation mode should be a default setting on every phone. brilliant!
re-stacked!
my man!
